BASIC APPROACH

(Note: This textbook was published by our college division for use by students at post-secondary institutions whose reading skills are below the level needed to succeed in college. Please review this text carefully to ensure appropriateness of content for your students.)

George Feinstein's Programmed College Vocabulary, 7/e, prepares students for college course work by covering literary and academic terms. Stressing the basic terminology of fiction, poetry, psychology, social science, and computer words, this self-paced text is grounded in the belief that students can learn anything that is broken down into easy steps.

FEATURES

  • Programmed, self-instruction format—Students learn step by step and by repetition-at their own speed, as though they have a tutor at their elbow confirming their answers. Definitions, examples, and sentence completions appear on the right side of the page; and correct answers appear on the left, in the margin.
  • Exercises that require repeated recall—Up to six times, of each defined word-provides opportunities for cumulative and continual reinforcement of material learned previously.
  • Emphasis on academic vocabulary—Focuses on terms from science, literature, history, and arts to prepare students for actual coursework rather than random "big words."
