Week 10
Review of Weeks 1–9
Objective:
The goal of this review is to double-check for understanding of the performance objectives listed in the previous weeks.
Suggested Review Practices:
Students need practice answering multiple choice and free-response questions. Given that you will have covered six chapters by now, choose three chapters to review on the first and second days of this week. For the multiple-choice test, make sure you write at least three questions addressing each performance standard. Students who answer all three correctly typically show mastery of the performance standard. It's important to devise assessments that can be graded quickly and returned to students promptly.
Pacing Guide:
- Review Chapters 1, 2, and 5—day 1
- Review Chapters 3, 4, and 6—day 2
- Multiple-Choice Test—day 3
- Essay Test—day 4
- Review corrected multiple-choice and essay exams—day 5
- Block Scheduling
The review of chapters 1, 2, and 5 should be given one block, as should the review of chapters 3, 4, and 6. Give the multiple-choice and essay exams one block. Review of the exams should take no longer than one-half of a block, unless questions arise.
Troubleshooting Tips:
- Try to write essay (free-response) questions that cut across chapters. Research-based essays, where the student must design an experiment, often lend themselves to the content of several chapters.
- Though there should be at least three multiple-choice questions for each performance standard, you should not limit yourself to three questions if you've spent significantly more time covering a particular performance standard.
