While the Framers of the Constitution may never have imagined all the types of cases the courts would hear, they did realize that government would be impossible to manage without a judiciary—so they added Article III to the Constitution. It established the Supreme Court and other, lower federal courts. It is the prime function of the legislative branch to make the law and the judicial branch—the system of federal courts and federal judges—to interpret and apply the law.
