Have you ever noticed that when you jump into a pool or step into a bathtub, you cause the water level to rise? This is an example of water displacement. The volume of water displaced is equal to the volume of the object submerged—you. In this chapter's first activity, you will build a prism and a cylinder. You will calculate their volumes by using water displacement.
