Aesop
(620–560 B.C.)

Aesop was an ancient Greek whose name was associated with a collection of wise tales about animals. Little is known about him, except that he was a slave who was later freed by his master. Actually, many of Aesop's tales or fables were based on tales told long before his birth. Many of them were also rewritten by others after his death. They are fun to read and contain good advice. Some of his most famous fables are "The Tortoise and the Hare," "The Ant and the Grasshopper," "The Fox and the Grapes," "The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse," "The Lion and the Mouse," and "The Boy Who Cried Wolf."
