Lloyd Alexander
(b. 1924)
Born January 30, 1924, in Philadelphia, PA, Lloyd Alexander is the son of Alan Audley (a stockbroker and importer) and Edna (Chudley) Alexander. Alexander has created and populated an entire mythical kingdom called Prydian in his novels and short stories. In 1969, The High King, one of many novels set in Prydian, was awarded a Newbery medal, the highest honor for children's books. In writing his stories, Alexander found that "a writer could know and love a fantasy world as much as his real one."
