James Berry
(b. 1925)

James Berry was born and raised in rural Jamaica. He was one of six children. While in Jamaica, Berry worked as a carpenter, tailor, shoemaker, and insurance agent to support his family. In the 1940s he immigrated to Great Britain. He has lived there ever since and is considered to be an active member of the arts and writing community. In his writing, Berry not only draws upon his own life, but also upon the conflicts and injustices of his people. He is interested in improving education for young students.
