
Joseph Bruchac
(b. 1942)
Joseph Bruchac grew up in Greenfield Center, a small town in the Adirondack Mountains of New York. As a young college student, he studied agriculture, majoring in wildlife conservation. Bruchac writes poems and stories, and edits a literary journal. As a master storyteller, he tells tales from his background of Native American (Abenaki), English, and Slovakian cultures. His work frequently emphasizes his concerns about the environment. In addition to his many written collections, Bruchac also performs his stories orally. He lives with his family in the house in which he grew up.
