
Russell Freedman

Russell Freedman, born in San Francisco, CA, has written more than 40 books, mainly for young people. These include Immigrant Kids, Children of the Wild West, and Cowboys of the Wild West—all named notable children's books by the American Library Association. Lincoln: A Photobiography, a carefully researched account of the life of our 16th President, is a winner of the Newbery Medal for children's literature. Freedman was the first, and one of the very few, nonfiction authors in 32 years to win the Newbery.
