Philip Fried
(b. 1945)

New York-based poet and editor Philip Fried is the author of two books of poetry, Mutual Trespasses (1988) and Quantum Genesis (1997). He also selected poetry for Acquainted with the Night (1997), a book that features the work of his wife, photographer Lynn Seville.

Fried is the founder of the Manhattan Review, an international journal that features interviews with poets from around the world. He first published the journal in 1980 in an effort to connect to a larger group of poets and to promote a cultural awareness of poetry.

Fried's latest work includes the poem "Early, Late," which is part of a collection called Poetry After 9/11: An Anthology of New York Poets (2002). The anthology is a collaboration of New York poets in remembrance of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
