Author Biographies

Richard García
(b. 1941)

Richard A. García was born in El Paso, Texas, but he has also lived in Mexico and Israel. He writes poetry for adults and children. He published Selected Poetry (1973) and the bilingual book, My Aunt Otilia's Spirits (1978), which is a contemporary folk tale for children. He has received fellowships in poetry and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the California Arts Council. He is currently a professor of history at California State University in Hayward. He is the co-author of Cesar Chavez, Triumph of Spirit (1995), which won the 1995 Critics'Choice Award from the San Francisco Review of Books.
