Edward D. Hoch(b. 1930) Edward D. Hoch, whose last name rhymes with "poke," was born in Rochester, New York. After graduating from the University of Rochester, he worked as a researcher for the Rochester Public Library. He also worked as a copywriter for an advertising company. Hoch has written many stories and novels in the mystery and science fiction genres. In 1968, he won an award from the Mystery Writers of America for his short story "The Oblong Room."
