Donald Justice
(b. 1925)
Throughout the course of his career, Donald Justice has experimented with different poetic forms and techniques. In all of his poetry, however, he displays a firm command of language and rhythm.
Born in Miami, Florida, Justice studied at the University of Miami, the University of North Carolina, Stanford University, and the University of Iowa. He began writing poetry in 1952, and in 1960 he published his first book of poems, The Summer Anniversaries. Since then he has published four more collections, including The Local Storm (1963) and Selected Poems (1979), which earned him a Pulitzer Prize.
