Author Biographies

George Laycock
(b. 1921)

George Edwin Laycock has published over 40 books since 1963. He has also been an editor and contributing writer for magazines ranging from Popular Science to Sports Illustrated.

Before beginning his career as a writer and editor, Laycock served in the United States Army in World War II. When the war was over, he attended Ohio State University and earned a bachelor's degree in 1947. He then went to work as an associate editor for Farm Quarterly before becoming a freelance writer in 1951.

Laycock's writing has always reflected his love and concern for nature. His books include America's Endangered Wildlife (1969) and The Young Naturalist's Guide to Wildlife (1986). In addition to writing, Laycock has served on the Ohio Wildlife Council and the Ohio Governor's Task Force on the Environment. He continues to be an active supporter of environmental causes.
