
Edwin Muir
(1887–1959)
Edwin Muir—novelist, poet, essayist, translator, and critic—was born in Devoness, Orkney, Scotland. In 1919, he moved to London, England where he wrote literary reviews. His verse collections include The Voyage (1946), The Labyrinth (1949), and Collected Poems (1960). Muir is perhaps best remembered as the principal English translator (with his wife Willa) of the great German writer Franz Kafka.
