Dorothy Parker
(1893–1967)

Dorothy Parker was born in Long Branch (was West End), New Jersey, but lived most of her life in New York City. She began her literary career in 1916 as a magazine writer. For several years, she was the regular book reviewer for The New Yorker. Today she is best remembered for her stories and poems, which are distinguished for their wit and sarcasm. Parker's writing in general expresses a gentle cynicism toward life and its disappointments.
