Juliet Piggott
(1924–1996)

Juliet Piggott's version of Popocatepetl and Ixtlaccihuatl–a Mexican legend explaining the origin of two volcanoes near present-day Mexico City–appears in her first book Mexican Folk Tales. She had a great love for learning about other cultures that can be seen throughout her work. She also had a great interest in the folklore of Japan. This most likely stems from the time that she spent there living with her grandfather–a legal advisor to Japan's Prince Ito. Piggott published several books including Japanese Mythology, The Story of Japan and Japanese Fairy Tales, based on the knowledge she acquired.
