Pattiann Rogers
(b. 1940)

Pattiann Rogers has contributed poems to more than 50 anthologies. She has also published several collections of her own poetry, including Firekeeper: New and Selected Poems. That collection was chosen by Publishers Weekly as one of the Best Books Published in 1994.

Science and the natural world are common themes in Rogers's poetry. In discussing her first book of poems, Expectations of Light (1981), the poet explained, "I wanted to express the kind of wonder and exhilaration that I felt was contained in much of what science has been discovering and also to reflect in my poetry how some of these discoveries affect our ways of seeing ourselves. I felt that somehow poetry was going to have to deal with the process of science and what science is saying."

Today, Rogers continues to publish poetry and essays. Her most recent book, Song of the World Becoming: New and Collected Poems, was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Award and was named an Editor's Choice, Top of the List, by Booklist.
