Pierre de Ronsard
(1524–1585)
Pierre de Ronsard is a writer who took his revision process quite seriously. By the time of his death he had revised his collected works for the seventh time! Ronsard took a very serious approach to his prolific amount of writing. He viewed the job of poet as receiver and transmitter of divine energies, which resulted in works that were marked with intensity. Because he wrote in so many different forms—epics, satires, political commentaries, and the odes and sonnets for which he is famous—and produced so much material, he earned the name "Prince of Poets" from his contemporaries.
