Christina Rossetti
(1830–1894)

Christina Rossetti is considered by some critics to be the best female poet in English literature. She was the daughter of an Italian father, who had come to live in England, and her brother was the famous poet and painter Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Today, Rossetti's best-known work is the long poem "Goblin Market", a kind of supernatural fairy tale. Many of her other poems, however, reflect her concern with religion. A number of them, like "Uphill," deal with the theme of death.
