  1. Diego Rivera, a muralist from Mexico, painted Sueño de una tarde dominical en la Alameda Central. You can see it on pages 142–143 of PASO A PASO 2. Look at it and name as many people and events as you can.

  2. Write in Spanish what you think the items you mentioned in item 1 might represent.

It might be interesting to note that the murals that Diego Rivera painted were more than paintings on canvas. This mural was actually painted on the fresh wall material as it was constructed. As the material in the wall dried, the paint on it did too. It is called a fresco and was done like Michelangelo painted the Sistine Chapel.

    2. Include what it depicts about the history of Mexico and identify some of the people pictured.
  2. You are a painter and you want to paint a mural in the style of Rivera.
    1. Select a subject such as your life, community, or your school.
    2. Select a segment of time in the past, present, or future.
    3. Combine them into a mural.
    4. Draw it on a piece of paper. Use bright colors if possible.
    5. Explain to a classmate in Spanish the subject, segment of time, what each person or situation represents, and why you chose them.
  3. As a class, put together a living tableau of the mural.
    1. Each person will play the part of someone in the mural and pose the same way.
    2. You then say in Spanish what your person is thinking about this Sunday afternoon in the park.
