Classroom Performance System

Press Release

Pearson Scott Foresman And Pearson Prentice Hall Sign On For Exclusive K–12 Handheld Assessment Tool Distribution

Upper Saddle River, NJ - November 30, 2004 – Pearson Prentice Hall and Pearson Scott Foresman announced today that they will provide integrated content for use in eInstruction's student response pads on an exclusive basis to U.S. K–12 classrooms. The two publishers will distribute eInstruction's Classroom Performance System (CPS) through Pearson NCS, making it possible for instructors to obtain immediate feedback on student comprehension throughout their classrooms.

Earlier this year, Pearson NCS and eInstruction announced a similar collaboration to bring handheld assessment tools to classrooms. Pearson NCS provides a wide variety of data collection hardware, software, scannable forms and outsourcing services for use in the education marketplace.

CPS is a handheld, instant student response system that enables students to respond electronically to questions or quizzes provided by teachers. Pearson Prentice Hall and Pearson Scott Foresman will offer eInstruction's CPS with integrated PowerPoint presentation and assessment content for immediate use in the classroom. Teachers won't have to create their own presentations but can use eInstruction right out of the box, coordinated to specific Pearson Education textbooks on a chapter by chapter basis.

Presentation and assessment items can be presented to the classroom via overhead projector, TV monitor, wireless chalkboard, printed tests or worksheets. CPS allows educators to view student feedback in real-time and instruction may then be modified based upon the individual or group response. The CPS reporting system tracks student progress against state standards.

"Pearson Education is a leader in the field of integrating classroom content with state-of-the-art technology," said Marty Smith, President, Pearson Education School Group. "Through eInstruction, we are offering teachers an advanced product they love with content they know and trust."

"eInstruction's CPS is the first technology of its kind, supporting both formative and summative assessment, that ensures that all students are engaged and participating in the classroom," said Dr. Darrell Ward, President, eInstruction Corp. "With content from Pearson Prentice Hall and Pearson Scott Foresman, K–12 teachers can also be assured that they are using the highest quality content available."
