Patricia Babbitt

teacher photoPatricia Babbitt teaches English in the Evergreen School District. She holds an Associate of Arts degree from Grays Harbor College in Aberdeen, Washington; a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Secondary Education from St. Martin's College in Lacey, Washington; and a Master of Arts Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Seattle Pacific University in Seattle, Washington.

Ms. Babbitt is currently the president of the Washington State Council of Teachers of English, a state leader for the National Council of Teachers of English, and a freelance writer and graphic design artist. Recently, she presented a workshop on poetry writing at the Washington State Council of Teachers Fall 2002 conference in Yakama, Washington. She has also developed the English program (grades 7–12) for the Glenwood School District and devised a high school desktop publishing program for her schools yearbook, newspaper, and literary magazine.

As you can see from this month's Featured Article, Ms. Babbitt has special expertise in the use of scaffolding to build students reading, writing, and speaking skills.
