Philip Bigler

teacher photoPhilip Bigler, of Fairfax, Virginia has been an educator for 22 years. He earned his Bachelor of History and Masters of Secondary Education/History from James Madison University, and a Masters of American Studies from The College of William and Mary. He has received many honors, including the Milken National Educator Award, the Washington Post Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Award, and the United States Capitol Historical Society Outstanding Teacher/Historian Award. In 1998, he was named Virginia's Teacher of the Year and, later that year, was named National Teacher of the Year. He was selected in 2000 to be a recipient of the Disney American Teacher Award. He is the author of four books and has served as the historian at Arlington National Cemetary. His teaching career has been in the greater Washington, D.C., area, and he has taught a wide variety of subjects, including World Civilizations, Russian History, and American History. Currently he is teaching at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Virginia.
