Patricia O'Connor

teacher photoPatricia O'Connor graduated from Oakland University with a B.A. in Social Studies education in 1974. She has since earned two M.A. degrees from Saginaw Valley State University, one in Teaching and one in Supervision and Curriculum Development. She currently is teaching Integrated American Studies, Advanced Placement United States History, Senior Independent Study, and American Government at Dakota High School in Macomb, Michigan. She taught elementary children and middle school students for several years and occasionally teaches graduate level education courses for Saginaw Valley State University.

She is a member of several professional organizations and regularly presents at their national conferences. She has served on the Social Studies Curriculum Council and chaired the Social Studies Department. A founding member of Dakota High School's School Improvement Team, she also continues to work with New Teacher Education through the Macomb New Teachers Academy. Two years ago, she became the first Social Studies teacher in Michigan to become a National Board Certified Teacher in Adolescence and Young Adult Social Studies. She continues to be the only board certified Social Studies teacher in the state and is now working to mentor more teachers as they go through the process.
