In this chapter we have discussed some differences between open-air markets and supermarkets. Now you'll explore some online advertisements of Supermercado Multiahorro, a chain of supermarkets in Uruguay, to see what exactly they have to offer.

Imagine that you are spending several months as an exchange student in Uruguay. Your host family has asked you to go to Supermercado Multiahorro to buy some groceries. A supermarket can be a great place to learn new Spanish words!

Your host parents have decided to let you choose up to \$500 worth of groceries. (Note that this is \$500 Uruguayan pesos, not U.S. dollars!)

See the current exchange rate of Uruguayan pesos to U.S. dollars.

Now, your task is to browse through the online advertisements of Supermercado Multiahorro and choose at least two different items. You may choose to buy some items in greater quantity than others (e.g., three kilos of tomatoes vs. only one kilo of apples), so long as you don't exceed your limit of \$500 Uruguayan pesos.

1. Are you ready to see what Supermercados Multiahorro have to offer? When you arrive at the page to begin your shopping, click on Comestibles to see a variety of items.

Click on each of these categories to see their selection of products:
1. Lácteos
2. Frutas/Verduras
4. Almacén (Otros Productos)

2. Now that you have browsed the advertisements, decide which items you will choose. In the following charts, type the name of the item, the unit price, and the quantity you would like. Then, calculate the total price for each category. Be sure to maintain your \$500 limit.

3. Find a partner and tell him or her what you have decided on. Have you chosen similar items? How do your choices differ?
