The Foundations of Mentoring and Coaching course begins by examining the foundations of good coaching and mentoring. The course explores questioning and planning skills key to pre-observation conferences, techniques for observing and recording data during observations, and methods for providing feedback and direction in post-observation conferences.
The course then examines how mentors can work with teachers to develop long-range plans for improving their literacy teaching. As part of this professional growth planning, the course will introduce Prentice Hall's courses on Vocabulary Development, Comprehension of Literary and Informational Materials, Literary Response and Analysis, and Active Learning. Several strategies from these courses will be highlighted, along with tools for evaluating teachers' work in these courses.
This course will help mentors prepare the new or struggling teacher to better implement standards-based literacy lessons through Prentice Hall's Timeless Voices, Timeless Themes.
