James Davis is Executive Director of the Social Science Education Consortium in Boulder, Colorado. He received his Ed.D. in social science education from the University of Colorado, Boulder. An active NCSS member for over thirty years, and a former social studies teacher, he has developed curriculum materials and teacher resources for both elementary and secondary levels.

Phyllis Fernlund is Dean of the School of Education at Sonoma State University. She received her B.A. and M.A. from the University of Illinois, Urbana, in the teaching of history and her Ph.D. in education from Northwestern University. A former high school social studies teacher, she has developed curriculum and professional development materials for K-12, business, and higher education.

Peter Woll is Professor of Politics at Brandeis University. He received his B.A. from Haverford College and his Ph.D. from Cornell University. His fields of specialization include American Government and Constitutional Law. Professor Woll has written 14 books, including American Government: Reading and Cases (2004) and American Government: Competition and Compromise (2001).
