A Controlled Experiment
Chapter 1: The Study of Life
Pasteur used the scientific method to provide data to support the theory of biogenesis. Similar to Redi, Pasteur designed his experiment to disprove spontaneous generation. Analyze Pasteur's setup to determine the variable and controlled conditions.
Analyze the Data
- Examine Pasteur's experiment on page 22 of your textbook. What is the variable in Pasteur's experiment? How are the conditions of the experiment altered using this variable?
- What factors were the same in both the experimental and the controlled situations?
- What other variables could be tested by Pasteur's experiment?
