Try This
- Find a clean jar with a cover and place some dried plant material into the jar.
- Fill the jar with water and cover the jar. Place the jar in a place that receives indirect sunlight.
- Observe the jar over the next few days. When the jar appears cloudy, bring it into your classroom.
- Prepare microscope slides of water from different areas of the jar.
- View the slides under the low-power objective of a microscope. Draw pictures of what you observe.
Analyze Your Results
- Where did the organisms you observed come from?
- Was ecological succession occurring? How do you know?
