Analyzing the Life Cycle of a Gymnosperm
Chapter 20: Origin and Diversity of Plants
Reproduction in a gymnosperm such as a conifer, involves an alternating of the haploid and diploid portions of the life cycle. This is determined by the timing of mitosis and meiosis. Use the life cycle illustrated in Figure 20.12 on page 482 of your textbook to answer the following questions.
Analyze the Data
- Which structures are haploid?
- Which structures are diploid?
- What processes determine whether the structures are haploid or diploid?
