CAREER RESOURCES

Careers in Botany
This is an electronic version of a brochure from the Botanical Society of America. It provides a fairly exhaustive overview of opportunities for those interested in plants and science. From the main page of the site you can also access a searchable database that will help you locate botanists in your area.

Careers in Plant Pathology
This site contains information from the American Phytopathological Society about the specialists who concentrate on plant health and disease.

Ethnobotany
This site provides a great introduction to this emerging field. Ethnobotanists are a cross between anthropologists and botanists; they study how people in various cultures use plants for drugs, foods, and so on. Read the "What is ethnobotany?" section for an overview, then browse through the articles on the site.

The Shaman's Apprentice
For more on ethnobotany, check out this interview with ethnobotanist Mark Plotkin, Ph.D. on the Access Excellence site.

American Society of Botanical Artists
This is the home page of an organization of artists who specialize in botanical images. You can learn about what it means to be a botanical artist, find out where to view exhibitions of botanical art, and read a profile of the artist of the month.

The Arborist — A Forester for City Trees
This article from the Mining Co. describes what an arborist does and the background needed to become one. Many forestry-related links make this a great site for anyone interested in trees.

National FFA Home Page
This is the home page of Future Farmers of America, an organization for students ages 12–21 who are interested in careers in any aspect of agriculture or agribusiness, including horticulture, education, forestry, and more. The Students part of the site includes career information and the FFA Talk area has a bulletin board where you can ask questions about agriculture.
